Musicians who study many musical styles often discover that each style uniquely informs their understanding of music. I enjoy learning and teaching music in a variety of styles, including classical, jazz and contemporary, and my students often enjoy the mix and definitely gain from what each piece of music has to offer. Students usually find a style or song that they can relate to and that inspires them to practice. | My teaching goals encompass enabling students to take ownership of their musical growth and work towards excellence. My teaching style involves encouraging students to set and reach musical goals and to develop a personal love for music and learning. Practicing for lessons can become something they are motivated to do. | Students benefit immensely from a well-rounded foundation in music. Lessons include applying music theory, sight reading, auditory, improvisational and performance skills. I currently use the Faber and Faber piano method books, which are well-known for incorporating these building blocks of music education creatively. I also supplement according to students' individual needs.
