About Laura

I  earned a B.A. in Music from Houghton College in Houghton, NY, where I studied piano with

Dr. George Boespflug, current director of the conservatory of music at Biola University.

My experience includes over seven years of teaching private piano and voice lessons at Lopez Studios,

Inc., a performing arts school in Reston, VA.  As a founding member of that school, I developed and modified curriculum progressions for private and group piano programs, mentored and trained new

teaching staff, and assisted in hiring new teachers.  I have experience working with beginner, intermediate, and advanced piano students.  I have also taught voice lessons to beginners.  During

those years, I developed a roster of over fifty private students, including adults.  In addition,

I led classes at and/or directed several summer music and drama camps.  I also taught group piano to beginners who preferred lessons in a classroom environment.

I am a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and my students participate in auditions for

the guild regularly.  I have taken the opportunity to work as a choir director, an accompanist,

and church musician.  I have also provided background music for special events and ceremony

music for weddings.

My teaching philosophy includes an understanding that every student is unique in their capabilities and interests and that a strong musical foundation can be fostered, even though the goals and learning styles of each student are varied.

I believe music teaches growth in discipline and character, which can help students succeed in other areas of life.

I enjoy teaching students of all ages. My youngest student was four and my oldest in her 50's or 60's.
